The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Ohio University
invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
Experimental Nuclear
Physics beginning in September 2008. The opening is at the Assistant
Professor level.
The department presently has 26 regular faculty members and approximately 65
students in its graduate program. The new faculty member will also be part of
Ohio University's (Institute for Nuclear
and Particle Physics). (INPP).
The INPP has active research programs in three main areas: (1) low-energy
experiments -- using the on-campus Edwards Accelerator Laboratory as well
as external facilities; (2) medium-energy experiments -- with research
primarily conducted at the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility;
and (3) nuclear/particle theory. For this position we seek outstanding
candidates whose expertise will enhance the INPP's experimental research
efforts in one (or more) of the following areas: medium-energy nuclear,
low-energy nuclear, nuclear astrophysics, relativistic heavy ions, fundamental
symmetries, or neutrino physics.
Further details of the research interests and activities of INPP and ApI can
be found on the departmental web-site
www.phy.ohiou.edu under Research.
Applicants should have a Ph.D., post-doctoral experience, and a strong record
of independent research. The successful candidate is expected to initiate
and maintain a vigorous research program and be an effective teacher at
both the undergraduate and graduate level. In addition to the research
in nuclear and particle physics carried out within the INPP, the Department
also has strong research efforts in astronomy/astrophysics, biophysics,
condensed matter physics, and nanoscience. Interested candidates should
send a vita, a statement of research plans, and a statement of teaching
philosophy to:
Prof. K Hicks,
NP Search Committee
Department of Physics and Astronomy,
Ohio University, Athens, OH 45701-2979.
Applicants should arrange for at least three letters of recommendation
to be sent to the above address. Review of applications will begin
December 15, 2007, and will continue until the position is filled. We seek
a candidate with a commitment in working effectively with students,
