These instructions for changing passwords is intended only for NIS+ users. If you are not a NIS+ users simply use passwd to change your password.
NIS+ users are those users who can log on the any of the physics servers using the same login and password. NIS+ users are generally graduate students, faculty, staff and undergraduates doing special projects. If you are a student with only a PLATO account these instructions do not apply to you.
If you are a NIS+ user changing your password is simple.
- Log onto any of the machines that are served by the NIS+ database.
- Type nispasswd at the prompt
- Type in your old password
- Type in your new password
- Retype your new password
It will take up to 15 minutes for the NIS+ database to be updated and distributed to all the machines. If you experience problems changing your password or your user credentials become corrupt contact any of the systems administrators.
