Dan Wik, an astrophysics major in the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio
University, was recently named a 2002 Goldwater Scholar. Goldwater
Scholarships are awarded through a national competition to college
sophomores and juniors majoring in science, engineering and mathematics,
Selection is based on academic achievement and future potential.
Wik is currently involved in research with Professors Peter Jung and
Tom Statler. During summer 2001 he was a research assistant at
the National Optical Astronomy Observatory in Tucson, Arizona; he was
recently chosen for a similar appointment in summer 2002 at the
Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
Wik plans to pursue doctoral studies in astronomy after graduating from
Ohio University in 2003.
