"Tecumseh!" Outdoor Theatrical Presentation:
This highly acclaimed outdoor drama experience depicting the legendary Shawnee leader's life and struggles to defend his tribe's homeland in the Ohio country during the 1700's has captivated and enthralled audiences for decades. "Tecumseh!" offers patrons a unique viewing experience of this larger than life reenactment at Sugarloaf Mountain Amphitheater, a facility with huge outdoor stages near Chillicothe, Ohio. This one-of-a-kind outdoor theatrical production includes live military canon, galloping horses, and amazing battle sequences and production techniques that have been emulated throughout the outdoor drama community. This professional and artistic outdoor drama tells the tale of Tecumseh's epic life, and the struggles of his people in the Ohio region. "Tecumseh!" is written by seven-time Pulitzer Prize nominee and Emmy recipient, Allan W. Eckert, nationally known for his buckskin bestsellers and includes the enchanting and beautiful Native American Music Score - recorded exclusively by The London Symphony Orchestra - and classic narration sequences recorded by Native American Actor Graham Greene. This internationally recognized, thrilling outdoor production has mesmerized audiences of all ages for nearly 40 years, as the historic tale of Tecumseh comes to life each summer.

Costs for this social activity will be included in conference registration fees, and transportation will be provided. For additional information on "Tecumseh!" please visit: http://www.tecumsehdrama.com/index.html

Local Events During Conference

Athens is always bustling with unique events and performances reflecting this region's rich historical and cultural atmosphere. Ohio Brew Week, a week-long festival celebrating craft beers from Ohio breweries at local bars and taverns, will be held from July 14 to 19. Throughout the week, 21 restaurants, pubs and taverns in the Athens area feature speakers, cooking with beer demonstrations and beer-related foods and specials. This year, there will be more than 76 microbrews on tap to sample at participating locations. The event culminates with the Boogie on the Bricks community festival on Saturday, which features the People's Choice Award for the favorite microbrewed beer. Ohio Brew Week is a great way to get out and visit an array of local pubs, taverns and restaurants while enjoying some of the best microbrewed beers produced in Ohio. For more information on this event, including participating locations, breweries and speakers please visit:
www.ohiobrewweek.com .

Athens is home to a flourishing music scene, where live music from local and regional artists can be heard uptown on a nightly basis at many of the pubs and taverns participating in Ohio Brew Week. The Blue Gator, Athens' premier nightclub, along with the Union Bar and Grill, Jackie O's Pub and Brewery and Casa Nueva highlight Athens' diverse live music environment ranging from traditional blue grass to rock 'n' roll. The Front Room in the new Baker Student Center also regularly features live acoustic music as well as a great cup of coffee.

Athens is an ideal destination for visitors who enjoy outdoor pursuits, particularly during the summer months. The cornucopia of state parks in the southeastern Ohio region including Wayne National Forest, Lake Hope State Park, and Burr Oak State Park, offer many opportunities for nature walks, hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, boating and swimming. The bike path that encompasses Athens and stretches to Nelsonville is another great way to get out and explore this charming and rustic area in a relaxed environment.

In addition to ample opportunities for outdoor excursions, live music and craft beers, the Athens Farmers Market, named one of the nation's best markets by Audubon Magazine, is a great experience for visitors who enjoy great local food and culture. The market is held every Wednesday and Saturday at the University Mall parking lot located at 1000 E. State Street from 10 am to 1 pm. Featured products includes home-grow vegetables and fruits, locally reared meat, breads, teas, fresh flowers and hand-made crafts.

For additional information on local events in Athens during the conference please visit the Athens County Visitor's Bureau site at: www.athensohio.com
