Peter Hoffmann-Pinther earned his doctorate in physics from Ohio University. He has returned to the Department as an adjunct faculty member after being a member of the physics faculty of the University of Houston-Downtown and retiring from that institution. His research has been in nuclear structure: energy levels (core-coupling model) and intermediate structure calculations. Currently he is using a quantum approach to explain the boiling points of the hydrogen isotopes. He also has written laboratory manuals for introductory physics courses. Recently he has revamped the department's manual for the laboratories that accompany the calculus based introductory physics sequence.

Hoffmann-Pinther has a long standing interest in ``the science and technology in pre-Columbian America'' and the diffusion of that topic. In the early evenings he regularly can be found at the university swimming pool.
