Professors Drabold and Mousseau are working on theroretical approaches to modeling glasses and amorphous materials. Drabold is primarily concerned with the electronic structure of chalcogenide (S, Se, Te) glasses and amorphous silicon and the dramatic response of these materials to light. Mousseau and Barkema have pioneered a novel method (the Activation Relaxtation Technique) which has led to perhaps the best existing models of amorphous Si and silica glass. Three postdoctoral fellows and four students are also working in this area.
