The following are a qualitative representation of Fermi Surfaces for free electrons in a simple cubic structure; the values for energies are given. For the surfaces in the second Brillouin zone we folded them back into the first Brillouin zone, therefore it can be seen that the surfaces in the first and the second zone complete each other.
Within the VRML representations, the figures can be rotated (try a continuous rotation), translated, and explored (fly through them to see them from all angles).
The following have been done using VRML 2.0, in order to be able to see them and use the full capabilities of this software for building 3-D shapes and animations, one needs to use a VRML browser. The most common one is CosmoPlayer.
