October 21, 2006 A new paper from our laboratory has appeared in the journal Chemistry of Materials (DOI: 10.1021/cm060525b). The paper describes a way to produce nanostructured GaN powders at room temperature and atmospheric pressure. July 19, 2006 A new paper from our laboratory has appeared in the journal Chemistry of Materials (DOI: 10.1021/cm060368g). The paper describes a simple new method for producing GaN quantum dots. December 13, 2005 A new paper from our laboratory has appeared in the journal Chemistry of Materials (DOI: 10.1021/cm050799j). The paper describes new developments in CdSe quantum dot synthesis. October 28, 2005 We had the pleasure of hosting Professor Louis Brus of Columbia University for a visit in our department. Professor Brus was one of the primary discoverers of quantum dots in the 1980s, and was a pioneer in the development of the theory to explain their electronic properties. October 8-13, 2005 Dr. Van Patten organized and chaired a symposium entitled "Nanomaterials for Photonics" at the 2005 FACSS Conference in Quebec City, Canada. August 22, 2005 A new microscope has been installed with near-field, confocal Raman, and atomic force imaging capabilities. We share this microscope with Dr. Richardson and other members of the NanoBioTechnology Initiative. Further information about this instrument can be found under the Lab Tour section. June 10, 2005 Drs. Van Patten and Wu have filed a provisional patent application that describes a new method for synthesizing CdSe quantum dots. June 1, 2005 Our own Dr. Dengguo Wu has won financial support through the Ohio University postdoctoral fellowship competition. Dr. Wu is studying energy transfer in quantum dot dimers. |
